In short: Wear OS 3.0+ watches and Garmin watches pair with an Android phone; Apple Watch pairs with an iPhone. A watch and a phone from different ecosystems, such as a Garmin on iPhone or any Android watch alongside an Apple Watch, cannot pair with each other at all, regardless of ScoreTap.

The ScoreTap companion also ships for Apple Watch with the iOS app: install ScoreTap from the App Store, and any Apple Watch paired with that iPhone can score from the wrist.
Watches that don't work
A few categories can't run the ScoreTap companion at all, on either phone:
- Older Galaxy Watches on Tizen (Galaxy Watch, Watch Active, Watch 3 and earlier): Samsung moved to Wear OS starting with the Galaxy Watch 4.
- Wear OS 1 or 2 watches: the companion needs Wear OS 3.0 or later.
- Fitness-band style watches with a closed, maker-only app, such as most Xiaomi Mi Band and Huawei Band devices: they only pair through their own app and can't install any third-party watch app.
- A watch and phone from different ecosystems: an Apple Watch can only ever pair with an iPhone, and a Wear OS or Garmin watch needs an Android phone for the ScoreTap companion, whichever app is installed.

- Does ScoreTap work with my smartwatch?
- It works with any Wear OS 3.0+ watch or Garmin watch paired to an Android phone, and with Apple Watch paired to an iPhone. Check the model lists above; if your watch runs a closed maker's app instead of Wear OS, watchOS or Garmin Connect IQ, it can't run the ScoreTap companion.
- Can I use a Garmin watch with an iPhone?
- Not yet. The ScoreTap Garmin companion currently pairs through Garmin Connect Mobile on an Android phone only.
- My watch has its own app store. Will ScoreTap show up there?
- Only on the three supported platforms: the Google Play listing offered to a paired Wear OS watch, the Connect IQ Store for Garmin, and the App Store for Apple Watch. Watches with a closed, maker-only app, like many budget fitness bands, can't install any third-party app, including ScoreTap.
- Do I need the ScoreTap Ring if I already have a compatible watch?
- No. The watch companion and the ScoreTap Ring are two independent ways to score hands-free; use whichever fits the moment, or both. Neither is required to use ScoreTap.
- Is an older Wear OS watch supported?
- Only Wear OS 3.0 and later. Samsung's Tizen-based Galaxy Watches (Watch 3 and earlier) and Wear OS 1/2 devices can't run the companion.
